Daniel Cody '08 - Milwaukee County Supervisor, District 15

About Daniel Cody

Daniel Cody was born near Show Low, Arizona and was raised in various places as a child including Nevada, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He learned the values of hard work, leadership, and dedication from his father, Donald, who served in the Korean War in the Marine Corps and continued his service afterwards as a law enforcement officer in several Minnesotan counties, and his mother Carley who not only worked full time to support her family after a severe heart attack struck Donald, but also attended the University of Nevada Reno at night where she earned her degree in accounting.

As a child, Daniel attended both parochial and public schools that taught him the important lessons of stewardship and sacrifice. Due to family financial and medical hardships during those early years, Daniel also came to understand the meaning of humility and that no matter how bad he and the rest of his family thought it could get, there was always a brighter future in front of them.

The promise of a brighter future came to prove true as Daniel graduated from High School in South Dakota and entered college at South Dakota State University to play football for the Jacks’ where he was fortunate to play along side several future NFL players including Packers lineman Adam Timmerman and four time Super Bowl champion placekicker Adam Vinatieri. It was also during this time that Daniel came to understand the importance of service to others in our daily lives and for two summers he worked as a counselor to “At Risk” teens for the Private Industry Counsel.

Out of college, Daniel moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin to lead a new Internet practice division at Oracular, one of the Fox Valley’s premier IT consultancies. He then accepted a position as an IT manager with a Milwaukee based consulting firm, and then came to work for the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee as an IT administrator in 2005.

At UW-Milwaukee, Daniel quickly emerged as a leader within the IT department and gained a reputation across campus as a champion of efficiency, tenacity, and resourcefulness. He continues to put those traits to use as a steward of his union, Wisconsin Professional Employee’s Council, AFT 4848 and as a member of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin where he serves as Vice-Chair of the 4th Congressional district and member of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin administrative committee.

In his day to day decision making and through his service in the DPW and WPEC, Daniel has worked hard to advocate on behalf of families just like the one he grew up in. Whether it’s by sharing his belief that everyone deserves the promise of a brighter future or by uniting communities to advance their shared dreams, Daniel Cody is a leader who continues to speak on behalf of Milwaukee County’s residents.

Above all else, Daniel is a devoted and loving husband to his wife Jennifer and a dedicated father to his daughter Emerson, 2, and his infant son Carter. Daniel and Jennifer were married at Lake Park in Milwaukee and now reside in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee where they are members of the St. Sebastian parish community.
